What is the difference between Rockwool rigid slabs and Rockwool rolls?
Rigid slabs are high-density boards (60–200 kg/m³) designed for structural applications like floors, roofs and cavity walls where compressive strength is needed. Rolls are lower-density, flexible blankets best suited for framing cavities, pipe wrapping and acoustic applications where compressive resistance is not required.
Can Rockwool rigid slabs be used under floor screed?
Yes. High-density Rockwool slabs (typically 100–140 kg/m³) are specifically designed for under-screed applications. They provide reliable load-bearing insulation for ground floors and floating floor systems without compressing under the weight of the screed.
Which density should I choose for my application?
For cavity wall and partition insulation, 60–80 kg/m³ slabs are sufficient. For floor and roof applications where loads are expected, choose 100–140 kg/m³. For heavy-duty industrial applications and inverted roofs, use 140–200 kg/m³ for maximum compressive resistance.
Do Rockwool rigid slabs need a vapour barrier?
In most external wall and flat roof applications, a vapour control layer is recommended on the warm side of the insulation to prevent interstitial condensation. Aluminium foil-faced slabs provide an integrated vapour barrier, simplifying installation.
